Maverick Viñales aiming for victory from second row of the grid

Páginas Amarillas HP 40 rider Maverick Viñales has achieved the fourth best time in the qualifying session held this afternoon at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, where this weekend the GP of the Republic of San Marino is disputed.

The current Moto3 World Champion has been fighting for pole position until the chequered flag was waved. On the last lap of the qualifying session, Viñales provisionally ranked third and was about to beat the best time, but had a problem in the last sector of the track that prevented him from getting the first pole position of this season.

For Maverick this isn’t a problem since he has a great pace and is confident to be fighting for victory tomorrow.

His partner in Páginas Amarillas HP 40 team, fellow Spaniard Luis Salom, has taken an important step forward in the session held this afternoon, where he managed the fifteenth fastest time.

Salom is satisfied with the work done, because even though the position is not what he and the team had hoped for, he’s got the pace that allows him to successfully tackle tomorrow’s race, in which he will attempt a comeback.

Maverick Viñales – 4th place – 1.38.202
I’m happy with the result because it is very important in Moto2 to start from the front. At the end of the session I thought we could get more, I hadn’t done a really fast lap yet but we had good pace. Tomorrow we can improve the bike and my riding to be faster. I think we’re prepared to do a good job tomorrow.

Luis Salom – 15th place – 1.38.865
I think we’ve done a good job during qualifying. We’ve not really done a great lap, but we managed a lot of laps in the same time bracket. There were many riders on track waiting to follow a fast rider and it was difficult during the last couple of laps. But I’m happy with the pace and my goal for tomorrow is to enter the top ten.
