Juanfran Guevara ready for Sepang raceday fightback

A competitive season of Moto3 racing continues to intensify as the title battle reaches its climax in Malaysia,with lap times in free practice this morning already inside the pole record.

With searing temperatures in the afternoon it looked unlikely that they would be able to go as fast in qualifying, but Jack Miller and John McPhee managed it as they were the only riders to dip under the 2’12 barrier.

After taking a step forward this morning Juanfran Guevara was hoping to be fighting for a top grid position this afternoon. The Spanish youngster had adapted well to the conditions after his issues yesterday and improved his set-up to allow him to clock the seventh fastest time in the final free practice session.

However, after being knocked off track by another rider in the final few moments of qualifying, Guevara was unable to make crucial late improvements to his lap time and the MAPFRE Aspar youngster faces a fight through the pack from nineteenth position.

19th Juanfran Guevara 2.14.799 (13 laps):
“It was important to get a slipstream but there was a lot of traffic at the end of the session and whereas last week it worked in our favour, today we were on the other end. I touched with another rider on one of my best laps, which I think could have put me in the top ten, but I am still satisfied because we did a good job today, improved the set-up and prepared well for the race. It is going to be tough because we have a lot of ground to make up and there will be a lot of riders trying to get involved in that lead group. It will be hot too and we’ll have to watch out because I’m sure there will be crashes. Hopefully I can get a good start, tag onto the lead group and try to battle with them for a good result.”
