Seventh spot on Misano grid for Efren Vazquez
The Leopard racing team’s rider line up with Danny Kent, Efren Vazquez and Hiroki Ono rounded up a brilliant qualifying performance with all three starting from a top ten position on tomorrow’s grid at the San Marino GP.
Like Friday, weather conditions with bright sunshine were perfect for a nail biting timed session this afternoon in which the Italian riders were more than anxious to claim success in front of their home crowd. Finally it was Enea Bastianini who took pole position from Brad Binder from South Africa and Danny Kent in third.
Efren Vazquez was lucky to continue the most important session after he had to report a low sider at halfway point. But thanks to his experienced and fix mechanics Vazquez went out on track again to set his fastest lap time in the very last minute to qualify for seventh position.
After an unusual time schedule for race day last time out in Silverstone, Moto3 starting time returns to 11:00am this Sunday. The wild Moto3 pack has to master a 23 lap distance.
#7 Efren VAZQUEZ, Grid position 7th – 1´43.074 (14/14):
“It was a really difficult session for us, but in the end we qualified for the third row which of course is still a good position to start the race tomorrow. Apart from one small mistake I did in turn 4 when I lost the front, but I’m pleased with our race pace. I got good confidence during all practice sessions as well as our rhythm with used tyres is ok. At the time of my crash I was lucky that the bike was ok and I was able to come back into the box to repair the small damages in time. After that I was happy once again because I could set my fastest lap time during qualifying which was not that far away from the top riders. For example we lost just 0.250 seconds to Danny. I think this is the most important thing for the race, which I think will be a hard fought one again. We are quite competitive and P7 on the grid is a position with good prospects.”
