Alex Rins goes down on fifth lap at Misano, Luis Salom fights back to 9th
Following the script written on this weekend’s practices, Sunday’s race that took place today at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli should have had Álex Rins and Johann Zarco as its main characters.
But during the fifth lap of Moto2 race, when the Páginas Amarillas HP 40 rider was pursuing the swiss Aergerter and opened a one-second gap with the second group, he went down when he was pushing the limits to overtake his rival. The manoeuvre took both riders to the ground, leaving all success options on the race.
Rins’ partner in the Páginas Amarillas HP 40 squad, Luis Salom, fought back position by position during the race. He finally reached ninth place – achieving his aim of getting into the top ten.
9th LUIS SALOM
“It was a very difficult race because at the start I had many problems with the front tyre. Until de 15th lap it was closing and I felt so bad because I lost time. At the end of the race the tank got empty and I could lap faster. To be honest I’m happy because at the end it was good, but not at all. I know I could be on a better place, although I have to be pleased because the result is not bad at all. We have to improve this because race start is very important in Moto2.”

“Honestly I didn’t use my head, because when I was on second position I had open a Little gap with Zarco and I went down. It’s a pity. I want to apologise to Dominique for what happened. After the crash I got in touch with the front group and I tried to learn a bit more. I always ride alone and I just wanted to learn. I also apologise if I disturbed to any rider”.
