Despite the unpromising forecast, the weather was partly favourable for the FIM CEV Repsol today in Jerez, with riders of the three categories enjoying one session with a totally dry track though the other was affected by rain. The prevailing wind hampered the day’s qualifying sessions from beginning to end, which nevertheless left Bulega in Moto3™, Pons in Moto2™ and Morales in Superbike out in front despite the inclement weather.

If anything affected both sessions of the Moto3™ Junior World Championship today it was the withdrawal of the overall leader, Arón Canet (SPA-Honda). The Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider injured a foot during a fall yesterday in free practice, and medical staff declared him unfit to ride this weekend. With his strongest rival out of action, Joan Mir (SPA-Ioda-Honda) led for almost all the 40 minutes of the first session, until Nicolò Bulega (ITA-KTM) went for it on his last lap out to beat the record for the pole position notched up by Fabio Quartararo on this circuit in last year’s championship. With the second session being run in the rain, times remained unimproved but many of the riders took the opportunity to get a feel for the wet track in anticipation of possible rain tomorrow. Pole position will be occupied by Nicolò Bulega (ITA-KTM) for the first time this season, followed by Joan Mir (SPA-Ioda-Honda) and Lorenzo Petrarca (ITA-KTM).

In the first session of the Moto2™ European Championship Edgar Pons (SPA-Kalex) was quickest, but in the second Tetsuta Nagashima (JPN-Kalex) put in the fastest time. However, the best times were posted in the morning sun, as the rain began to fall 20 minutes into the second session. In pole position tomorrow will be championship leader, Edgar Pons (SPA-Kalex), accompanied by Alan Techer (FRA-Tech 3) and Tetsuta Nagashima (JPN-Kalex) on the front row. Behind them come Luca Marini (ITA-Kalex), Anthony West (AUS-FTR) – a storming first appearance in the FIM CEV Repsol after the World Championship – and Xavi Vierge (SPA-Tech 3). There will be new faces also in Superstock 600, with newcomer Henning Flauthaug (NOR-Honda) riding quickest in the category.

Mechanical failure and the resulting oil spill brought a halt to the first session of the Superbike European Championship while the track was cleaned. This didn’t prevent Carmelo Morales (SPA-Yamaha) earning pole on the grid tomorrow with a quickest lap of 1:43.694. After his brilliant performance in Navarra Maximilian Scheib (CHI-BMW Motorrad) continues to ride consistently in the leading positions. The Boxmotos Easyrace SBK Team rider, besides being the leading privateer, will start from second position. Also in the morning session Robertino Pietri (VEN-Yamaha) posted the third fastest time and closes out the front row in tomorrow’s race. The second session, as expected, was badly affected by rain, with times for everyone remaining unimproved.

As ever, access to the paddock will be free this weekend. In addition, FIM CEV Repsol fans can go on Sunday to the security office at the main entrance to the Circuito de Jerez to pick up a pass to take part in the Pit Lane Walk that takes place before the start of racing.

From Spain, races can be seen live via the MotoGP Channel of Movistar+ which will broadcast all of the races scheduled in the Moto3™ Junior World Championship, Moto2™ European Championship and Superbike European Championship categories. The Energy channel of Mediaset Spain will also cover the FIM CEV Repsol, broadcasting the Moto3™ Junior World Championship races, the Moto2™ European Championship race, and the first of the Superbike European Championship races. BT Sports (UK) and Eurosport through Eurosportplayer (France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland), will also offer coverage of the Moto3™ Junior World Championship, Moto2™ European Championship and Superbike European Championship races, with live broadcasts of each of the races scheduled for this weekend on one of their TV channels or via digital broadcast. In Italy, Sky will broadcast live both races of the Moto3™ Junior World Championship, as well as the Moto2™ European Championship race.

Race highlights will have a global reach through FOX (Asia and Australia) and ESPN Deportes (Latin America).
