Rookie Alex Rins is runner-up at Valencia and in Moto2 World Championship
This morning we saw an exciting race on the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, in which rookie Alex Rins achieved runner-up title. In the last race of the season with eight points ahead of Rabat, Rins started from third on the grid with the target of not losing advantage. Until now, this title had be achieved only by Marc Márquez.
But there was more drama than the expected when the race was stopped with a red flag on the first lap because of an accident in turn two. Six riders were involved.
Race was reduced and it was eighteen laps. Rins kept the third position and the trio formed by him, Luthi and Rabat was leading the race. They slowly got distance from their persecutors and on the third lap Rabat increased the pace and Rins decided to overtake the swiss Luthi. Then he rode behind his rival in order to maintain the second place in the championship.
Laps were passing and the difference between Rins and Luthi increased to two seconds. Rins had enough distance from his rival for secure second place and he reached his tenth podium of the season and second place in the World.
His partner in the Páginas Amarillas HP 40, Luis Salom, did a very good race. He fought in the second group and soared from twelfth to sixth place, repeating the result achieved in the previous two races (Malaysia and Australia).

“I’m so happy. To have got the runner-up as a rookie makes me very happy. When I started and I saw I was in the group with Rabat and Luthi I concentrated on follow their wheels. But I saw that Rabat was pushing and I decided to overtake Luthi ride behind Tito. Laps were running out and the truth is that the pace has been very high it was difficult to follow it, but we have endured. I saw on the board that I was outpacing third and with that position was enough for the target. I must congratulate Tito for the big race he has done and being able to play with him in track this runner gives it more value”.
6th Luis Salom
“At first race has gone well, I pushed hard and I had Luthi and Baldassarri in front of me and I was getting them gradually, but I had a physical problem and the truth is that I had a big stroke and I lost a lot in two laps. When I recovered I was still fast and it could take them a bit but it wasn’t enough. At the end a sixth position starting from twelfth for finishing the season, although I hoped more of this weekend. “
