Joan Mir twelfth in Qatar season opener
It was a bittersweet finish to the opening race of the 2016 season for the Moto3 class. At the Losail International Circuit, the three Leopard Racing riders were confident of building on their positive results from Free Practice and Qualifying.
Today, however, Leopard Racing riders couldn’t return their best efforts.
Fabio Quartararo lost touch with the lead group in the early laps while Joan Mir battled hard on the edge of the Top 10. Andrea Locatelli rode hard, taking risks in heavy traffic to improve his position.
The race was won by Niccolò Antonelli, his third career win ahead of Brad Binder and Pecco Bagnaia. At the line Joan Mir out sprinted his teammate Quartararo to take 12th place.
The next race is scheduled for the weekend April 1 to 3, at Termas de Rio Hondo for the Grand Prix of Argentina.
#36 Joan MIR – 12th:
“I’m not completely satisfied with today, I suffered a lot with the front. It was a pity because I think we can do more but it’s my first race on a track I don’t know so 12th place is not bad for a rookie. I want to thank the whole team.”
