Miguel Oliveira positive after opening practice sessions at Sachsenring
It was a good start for the Leopard Racing team this weekend at the Sachsenring. The 3.7km German track is host to the ninth round of the 2016 World Championship, both the Moto2 riders collecting valuable data for technicians while getting to grips with their tyres in the difficult conditions.
Miguel Oliveira, absent here last year due to an accident during Moto3 FP1, did well in the morning and was satisfied with the set-up of his Kalex.
In the afternoon the Portuguese talent dedicated his time to testing a new compound tyre, filing 0.3s off his best lap time and wrapping up the session in 11th with a 1’26.141 lap, good enough for 13th overall.
Saturday will open with the third and final free practice session before the afternoon wraps up with Qualifying to decide the grid for the 2016 German GP.
#44 Miguel OLIVEIRA – 13th (1’26.141):
“It was a day that was a little strange due to the track conditions. We did not do many laps but I’m happy about the pace and the changes we have done on the bike this afternoon. The bike is already stable on fast corners; we have to improve in the slower sectors. The gap of 0.8s behind the leader is not bad, but we want to try to reduce it further to be with the guys in front.”
