Alex Rins returns to the Moto2 podium in Austria, Edgar Pons finishes 20th
The Austrian Grand Prix proved an exciting race right until the last lap. Álex Rins started from the third row of the grid and he was planning a comeback. After the lights turned off, the Páginas Amarillas HP40 Rider completed a good first lap gaining two positions and was then able to chase leader Johann Zarco from the start of lap five.
Álex had a problem under braking for turn three and he lost contact with the leading group. Far from despairing, Rins focused on reducing the gap with the leaders and he reached them right on the last lap. Álex overtook Lüthi in the last curve and climbed the third step of the podium for the fifth time this season.
Édgar Pons suffered more than his teammate. The Rookie completed a very good positive weekend, being consistently in the top fifteen in all the pre-race sessions pre-race disputed.
In the first corner, Édgar managed a great turning move but he lost several positions on the next. Then he tried to go up gradually during the race to finish twentieth.
3rd Alex Rins
“We went from the third row of the grid but the first lap we have done well. I was behind Zarco and I was with leading group when I made a mistake. I lost almost three seconds and I concentrated on recover slowly. Just in the last lap I achieved a good third place”
20th Édgar Pons
“We’ve done a good weekend, being consistently in the top fifteen. It was a shame that I mortgaged the outcome of the race in the third corner, where I have gone out and I lose some positions. I am happy because we did well on Friday and Saturday and I have been in good shape”
