Jorge Martin makes strong start in Brno free practice sessions
After just a couple of days to get their breath back following a day of post-GP testing in Austria on Monday, the Moto3 World Championship riders were back on track today as the eleventh round of the season got underway in the Czech Republic.
Brad Binder was again the pacesetter today, stopping the clock at 2’08.047 in the second session, followed by a quintet of Italians in the shape of Andrea Migno, Enea Bastianini, Mahindra Pull&Bear Aspar Team rider Pecco Bagnaia, Nicolò Bulega and Fabio di Giannantonio. Bulega crashed in the early stages of the afternoon session although he was able to return to action and close to within six tenths of Binder.
Joan Mir, winner of the last race in Austria, could only manage 24th place today, 1.7 seconds off Binder. Qualifying for the Moto3 class takes place at 12.35 tomorrow.
Spirits are high in the Mahindra Pull&Bear Aspar Team camp after a strong start to the Czech Republic GP. Jorge MartĂn was just a matter of tenths of a second off the pace of Binder as he finished the day in seventh place.
The Spaniard, who was second fastest in the opening session this morning, continued his positive progress from Austria, where he picked up the best result of his career so far, and he is confident that his current feeling with the Mahindra will allow him to set a competitive lap time tomorrow.
7th Jorge MartĂn 2.08.681 (28 laps):
“Since Austria I have felt very comfortable and I can ride the bike how I want. Today we were second fastest and seventh fastest in the two sessions, although I had a little problem with the front closing. We’ll try to keep working like this for the rest of the weekend. I am happy because I have been amongst the fastest guys on track in both sessions and we are eager to improve further. We have a good pace, we just have a couple of tenths to find and we can push tomorrow for a good lap time.”
