Joan Mir on second row of the grid at tricky Silverstone
A second row for the Leopard Racing Team in the official Qualifying at the Octo British Grand Prix, the twelfth round of the 2016 season of Moto3. In the most classic of the scenarios, the rain has made an appearance at the 5.9 km British circuit of Silverstone at the beginning of the session and then intensified in the final minutes, impacting many riders.
Rookie 19-year Joan Mir was able to exploit a decisive moment to set a best time of 2’34.479 which earned him a spot on the second row, stopping the clock at 0.8s off pole of Pecco Bagnaia. The Palma de Mallorca native has grown a lot in the wet and tomorrow will have the opportunity to gamble and fight for victory whatever the conditions.
With the uncertainty of the weather in mind, tomorrow at 9:00 (local time, GMT +1) warm up will begin, a preview of the twelfth race of the 2016 season that will start at 12:30.
#36 Joan MIR – 6th (2’34.479):
“I am very happy with this qualifying session because we took advantage of the right time to set the best lap time. Above all, we are becoming increasingly competitive also in the wet. For me it will not matter whether tomorrow will be wet or dry: however, we want to stay ahead at all costs. I want to thank my team for the great work they have done!”
