Mahindra celebrate 100th Grand Prix at Misano
The TIM Grand Prix of San Marino and the Riviera di Rimini will mark an important milestone for the only Indian constructor in the World Championships, Mahindra Racing. When Sunday’s Moto3 race gets underway, it will be Mahindra’s 100th Grand Prix start since entering the MotoGP series in 2011.
At a busy Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, Mahindra celebrated the occasion in style just ahead of the Moto3 second free practice. All 11 MGP3O riders – nine Mahindra bikes and two in the colours of sister brand Peugeot Motocycles – took to the track for a parade lap. Each rider proudly carried an Indian flag and returned to the start line to be greeted by a host of journalists and photographers and an enthusiastic reception from the crowd.
With almost 100 races under its belt, Mahindra continues to rewrite the record books, 2016 the most successful season to date. A pole, two wins and a total of seven podiums this season alone signify that Mahindra should be set for an even better second 100 Grands Prix.
Today’s display was also a chance for the engineering team from Mahindra’s technical development centre in Besozzo near Varese in Italy to see the fruits of their labours on track. Most of the Mahindra Racing staff will be at Misano. Meanwhile, all of the Mahindra bikes will carry a #100atMisano sticker and wildcard entry Stefano Manzi, who produced a famous ride from 34th to fourth at Silverstone last weekend, will run with the colours of the Indian flag on his MGP3O on race day as the celebrations continue.
