Jorge Martin in doubt for Misano race
The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli played host to a chaotic qualifying session for the Moto3 class this afternoon, with the final five minutes turning into a lottery as a host of riders coasted around the track looking for a tow.
Series leader Brad Binder managed to pick his way through for his fourth pole of the season, although the South African usually saves his best for Sunday, with four wins and nine podiums from twelves races so far – a tally he looks a strong favourite to add to tomorrow.
Italian pair Enea Bastianini and Nicolò Bulega complete the front row at their home race, with Jorge Navarro, second in the championship, to start from row two after a late crash ruled out his challenge for pole.
Luck was not on the side of the Mahindra Gaviota Aspar Team today at Misano, with Jorge Martín also crashing out late in the session and injuring his foot.
The Spaniard has fractured the tip of the fifth metatarsal on his right foot and even though he has been cleared by the circuit medical staff he will wait until after tomorrow’s warm-up before deciding whether or not to take part in the race.
The Mahindra Gaviota Aspar rider was a strong contender this afternoon, figuring constantly in the top ten and qualifying twelfth despite his crash.
11th Jorge Martín 1.43.112 (13 laps):
“The crash was a shame because I have fractured the tip of the fifth metatarsal on my right foot. I will try tomorrow in the warm-up but I don’t think I’ll be able to race because I am in a lot of pain. We’ll decide what to do tomorrow but, in any case, I hope to be back for Aragón. It is a shame because we improved our pace, we had tried a few different things and I felt very comfortable with the bike.”
