Jorge Martin is preparing for surgery in Germany
Fabio Di Giannantonio and Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3 did not enjoy the best possible qualifying today at the Sachsenring in Germany, the venue hosting the ninth event of the 2017 Moto3 World Championship.
Only half of the team’s pit-box was on duty today, however, after the injury sustained by Jorge Martin yesterday during FP2. The Spaniard, who has spent the night in the hospital at Chemnitz, will leave Germany tomorrow and head to Barcelona, where he will be admitted at the Dexeus clinic to prepare for surgery.
The operation to the right ankle will be carried out by Dr Ginebreda on Monday morning, after which a recovery schedule will be planned. The partial fracture to the right proximal fibula, however, will not require any surgery.
Jorge Martin #88:
“First of all I would like to say that I’m fine. Yesterday’s crash was a real shame, especially because it happened on a track I love and where I expected to fight for the win. It’s a complicated injury, so I will fly to Barcelona tomorrow in order to undergo surgery on Monday morning. I hope there won’t be any ligament damage. Once done with surgery, we will know the timetable for recovery. As I said, it’s a complicated injury, so we will take all the time we’ll need to be back 100% fit and even stronger.”
