Xavi Vierge to start Catalan GP from row 3 despite crashing

After Italy, Marcel Schrötter returned to the front row and will start the Catalunya Grand Prix from the third position, while Dynavolt Intact GP teammate Xavi Vierge made it into row three despite a crash.

For Xavi Vierge, the qualifying for his Home Grand Prix was a bit more difficult. The Catalan found it hard to build up 100% confidence for the front and paid for it in his last exit with a small slip-up. Fortunately he was able to jump back on his Kalex and to continue the run, but he could not improve with the fresh tyres that were actually intended for a final time hunt. Finally, he just missed out the second row at the end and from grid position seven, he now leads tomorrow’s third row in front of Joan Mir and Sam Lowes and will do everything to make a strong race in front of the local fans.

Xavi Vierge:

“Compared to yesterday we made a step, but it was not enough. We found a really good pace for the race, but I missed some tenths in the Qualifying. With the last new tyre I did crash in the second lap. This was a shame because I couldn’t improve anymore at the end. All the weekend I have struggled with the front. I found it difficult to build up a good feeling for the front tyre. I was braking and going into the corner and when I released the front brake I was crashing. But anyway we made a good job and we have a good position to start tomorrow’s race. Now we need to work hard to analyse everything. I had a good rhythm and my teammate has a good pace and now we have to try to find out where the problems are. It is a good way to work with the team. I’m looking forward to race tomorrow and I think we can make another step forward.”
