Canet and Syahrin take Inde Aspar Team into the top 6
Unlike the Moto3 race, the Spanish Moto2 Grand Prix has provided a race with initial emotions, but with consolidated positions during the final laps of the race. Luca Marini, winner in Jerez today, has been more than one second faster than the leader of the World Championship, Japanese Tetsuta Nagashima, second today. After him, his teammate Jorge Martín was third, leaving behind the Qatar GP result. Lorenzo Baldassarri and Enea Bastianini, who were on the podium in the season’s opening race, were eighth and ninth today at the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit.
The Inde Aspar Team has taken its two riders to the top 6 of the Moto2 category in an exciting race, in which Aron Canet has even competed for podium positions and in which Hafizh Syahrin has recovered nine positions from his grid place. Aron Canet, in his second race in the category, has improved his already excellent start to the season, Qatar’s eighth position. The rookie in the intermediate category continues to adapt to his new bike and learning to manage Moto2 races and aspires to continue in that line in the next races. His teammate Hafizh Syahrin has regretted not being able to qualify better yesterday, as it would have allowed him to fight with the front group. Despite this, the Malaysian has regained nine positions in today’s race to finish sixth. With these results, Aron Canet ranks sixth overall, as the best Spanish rider and the best rookie, and Hafizh Syahrin, eleventh.
5th Aron Canet (+10,794):
“It is the second race of my life in Moto2 and I have finished in the top 5: mission more than accomplished. I have learned a lot from this race, from how to manage the bike. I think we have to improve the set-up a bit and we shouldn’t attack as much during the first laps because then it takes its toll. I’m happy, now it’s time to enjoy… without forgetting that we have a race next week.”
6th Hafizh Syahrin (+15,578):
“I am happy with how the race went, from 15th to 6th it is a good comeback. I had a very good race pace and I think he could have been competing with the leading group, but this is what happens when you start from behind. We were unlucky with the tyres in Q2. I want to thank the team for believing in me, the fans and my family for their support.”
