Canet repeats top 10 finish after Syahrin’s scary crash
The Inde Aspar Team has had a bittersweet Moto2 race, with Hafizh Syahrin’s hard, but without consequences, crash and a new top 10 from Aron Canet in his rookie season in the intermediate category. The Malaysian rider started the Moto2 race from the twentieth position and was nineteenth when, coming out of the first corner on the fourth lap, he found a motorcycle on the ground that he could not avoid. Syahrin has crashed with his bike and has quickly been transferred to the circuit medical center. The Inde Aspar Team rider has not lost consciousness at any time and the first tests have ruled out injuries. Despite this, he has been transferred to a nearby hospital to check his situation in detail and it has been confirmed that he has no fractures.
Meanwhile, and after a red flag that has stopped the race, Aron Canet has competed with the best riders in the category in his fifth race in Moto2, riding even in fourth position, although he has finally finished ninth. The Valencian rider thus concludes again among the top ten, positions he has occupied in the five races that have been held this season. With the seven points collected from this race, Canet is sixth in the general standings, although 35 points off the lead. The Inde Aspar Team rider does lead the rookie of the year fight, by 38 points. The victory in the Austrian grand prix has been for the Spanish Jorge Martín, followed by the new leader of the World Championship Luca Marini and by the German Marcel Schrotter.
Aron Canet:
“I am not happy with the result, because we had problems during the race that caused us to lose feeling in the front end. This has caused us to lose positions, but we continue to learn and improve.”
Hafizh Syahrin:
“I feel good, lucky after the crash because I haven’t broken anything. It was a nasty crash. I feel pain in my legs, near my groin, as if my leg was broken, but we have confirmed that there are no fractures. I’m going to try to recover to see if I can race next week.”
