Albert Arenas is in exceptional shape and he proved it again today at the Austrian Grand Prix. The Valresa Aspar Team rider has achieved the third victory of the season, after five races, and leads the Moto3 World Championship with firm hand. The Spanish rider has managed a tough race, with up to 23 riders in the leading group, and has been able to attack at the right time to achieve a new victory, with Jaume Masiá and John McPhee just behind him.

The race at the Red Bull Ring had up to seven different leaders, the first of them Arenas himself, who from the front row of the grid took first place as soon as the lights went out. Despite this, and although he has been able to get a few tenths of advantage, it has not been enough to escape the group together with two other rivals.

The Valresa Aspar Team rider went on the attack in the final laps, and with four laps to go, he took the lead. Since that moment, he has always tried to be among the first and although it seemed that in the last lap he could not catch up with Jaume Masiá, in the last two sectors of the circuit he has been four tenths faster than Masiá to cross the finish line as the winner of the Austrian grand prix. His teammate Stefano Nepa has competed during the whole race with the leading group, albeit in slightly backward positions, to finish fifteenth and score again.

With these results, Albert Arenas consolidates himself in the leadership of the category with 95 points, 28 more than John McPhee and 30 more than Japanese Ai Ogura. Stefano Nepa is eighteenth, with 13 points, while the Valresa Aspar Team is the team leader with 108 points, 37 more than their pursuers.

Albert Arenas:
“The last two corners have been incredible. I am very satisfied with this victory at KTM’s home, I am happy for them, for my team, for my crew chief Mauri who has been on the podium with me… It was a very crazy race, I tried at the beginning to push and be in front to avoid risks, but it was difficult because all the bikes had similar speed. I’ve tried to manage it as well as possible, but I felt comfortable in front.”

15th Stefano Nepa (+2,609):
“It was a good race, although it was tough because we were all close together and each lap seemed like the last. With so many braking spots, we all tried to overtake at all times and it was difficult to manage the race. In the end we got a point, but we are happy with how it went in general.”
