Izan Guevara consolidates championship lead with Aragon win, Sergio Garcia 13th
Izan Guevara has won again in Aragón, as he did three times in 2020, and he has taken his fourth victory of the year, his third in Spain and the seventh for the AutoSolar GASGAS Aspar Team. Guevara has led the race from start to finish after a great show of riding, and he takes advantage of the win to move further ahead in the overall standings on a day when Sergio García and Dennis Foggia scored just a few points. Guevara has increased his lead over his teammate to 33 points and over the Italian to 58 points.
The Mallorcan rider got away from Ayumu Sasaki and Dani Holgado from the start, but he kept the lead of the race until he crossed the finish line, 9 tenths ahead of the Japanese rider. Sergio García Dols started the race from twelfth position on the grid and constantly fought with several rivals in the second group. After gaining four positions on the first lap, the Spaniard finished the Aragon Grand Prix in thirteenth position. Nevertheless, he is still in the fight for the World Championship and will try to reverse the situation in the Japanese Grand Prix.
WINNER Izan Guevara:
“This was an incredible and really important result for the championship – this victory is really important for me and the team too. It was an incredible race, our pace was so strong all weekend. I pushed hard straight from P1 at the start and just raced as hard as I could to keep the gap as big as possible. An incredible weekend, and Motorland is my home!”
13th Sergio García Dols (+17.217):
“I wasn’t expecting a race like this. I couldn’t find the feeling I wanted and made a lot of mistakes at the braking points and on corner entry. I know we could have done better but it was also important to keep calm. It is important to keep positive and keep working hard like we always do across the race weekends.”
