Alonso Lopez on the podium with 3rd in #JapaneseGP, DNF for Fermin Aldeguer

From the twelfth position on the grid to the third step of the Motegi podium, very nearly to the second victory; this is how the number 21 greets Japan after an excellent race which everyone enjoyed. Also this time, López proved to be the best Moto2 2022 rookie after a perfect weekend in which he demonstrated a lot: from the excellent start, to the six laps in the lead and to the determination in keeping his nerve until the finish line with Dixon behind him taking the third podium of the season.

Aldeguer’s fight for the podium ended too soon, leaving a bitter taste in the team and his mouth but showing they had all the credentials to finish a great race. The number 54 after a good start managed to keep the second position running at the pace dictated by Canet; unfortunately at the fifth corner of the third lap the crash ended the race early.

I’m incredibly happy because I didn’t expect it! We started from twelfth position and in Moto2 it is very difficult to take a podium when you start so far back, but on the first lap I managed to gain a lot of positions because the feeling was really good, enough to reach the first position. I tried to keep a high pace, but I couldn’t do it because Ogura and Fernandez were faster. In any case, I am really satisfied with this weekend, I sincerely thank the team and those who support me!

We have to look at everything positive this weekend, we don’t want to dwell on the race, but on the start we made, on yesterday’s front row and on how we fought over the weekend. We are back, we have shown that we are strong and so we must continue to work and learn from our mistakes!
