#AustralianGP to forget for Vietti and Antonelli with double DNF

 In Moto2, News

A Sunday to forget for the Mooney VR46 Racing Team at the Australian GP which took place today at Phillip Island. After a quite good start, Celestino Vietti and Niccolò Antonelli were both forced to retire during the first laps after a double crash.

Starting from the sixth box of the grid, Celestino struggled to keep the pace of the leading group. In P12 after the first lap, he climbed the ranking up to sixth place before losing control of his Kalex, 12 laps from the chequered flag, at turn 6. With today’s zero he is in 4th place in the general standings with 165 points.

A bitter Sunday also for Niccolò, in the garage after a violent crash at turn 9, fortunately without consequences, while he was recovering from the back of the group.

Celestino Vietti

A real shame: I didn’t start very well, but I had good sensations. I was recovering, I felt good on the bike, I tried to push harder, but I lost the front and couldn’t do anything to avoid the crash. Yesterday we were competitive and today we needed a good result for the whole Team. They did a great job and I’m very sorry. Let’s think of Malaysia to leave behind this week.

Niccolo Antonelli

A really big crash, but fortunately without consequences. It wasn’t an easy weekend, this track is tough with Moto2, but I tried to push even if the feeling wasn’t perfect. It was important to reach the finishing line to gain experience and continue with the step forward for which we are working hard.
