Bitter end to the season as Vietti and Antonelli record double DNF at #ValenciaGP

 In Moto2, News

A tough end to the season for the Moto2 Mooney VR46 Racing Team with the double retirement of Celestino Vietti and Niccolò Antonelli.

Starting from the third row, Celestino confirmed the position immediately after the start. In an attempt to move up the rankings, he was the victim of a crash on lap six when he was in P7. Back on track he was forced to retire – after the marshals displayed the black flag with an orange circle – due to the damage suffered by his Kalex. With today’s result, he closes in seventh place in the overall standings with 165 points.

An early end of the race also for Niccolò who started from the back of the group in P31. In P23 during the 14th lap, he crashed at turn 3 and was unable to restart.

Celestino Vietti

This was not the ending I imagined for the last race of the season. We did a good job yesterday and today’s goal was to recover. I’m really sorry, especially for the Team, that I want to really thank, because the guys did a great job during the year and never gave up. We have struggled in the last few races, we have been fast on several occasions but the crashes have been decisive. A great pity.

Niccolo Antonelli

I am really sorry to end the season like this for me and the whole Team. We have not been competitive during the weekend, the two crashes on Friday really penalised us. Today I tried to make a small step forward to make some overtaking and finish the race. Unfortunately in an attempt to recover and overtake Ramirez I made a mistake at Turn 3 and crashed. A tough year but I have to thank the crew, they gave their best always.
