Alex Marquez takes maiden pole and Sprint Race top 5 in #ArgentinaGP

A Saturday to remember, without a doubt, the one experienced by Alex Marquez at Termas de Rio Hondo. The Spanish rider, who recently joined both Ducati and Gresini families, managed to claim today his maiden MotoGP pole position in what was a thrilling double session: after a crash in Q1 and a brave choice to go for slick tyres in Q2, he put together the perfect lap right before the chequered flag was deployed.

The rider #73 was among the absolute protagonists also in the sprint race, in which there were also a few moments of tension, but Marquez was still able to battle on equal terms with the reigning World Champion Bagnaia as he edged him at the finish line for fifth.

Fabio Di Giannantonio also had a good showing as he crossed the line in twelfth place at Rio Hondo. The Italian rider, who had an unfortunate qualifying performance, will have the chance tomorrow to score his first points of the season on a track where he seems to have recovered his best form.

5th – ALEX MARQUEZ #73
“Maybe I made the mistake of going for the medium front tyre, but aside from the bear crash at turn 4 we did a great race. We missed a few details as I was quick but I was unable to attack. Still we had fun and we managed to overtake Pecco and we almost did the same with Morbidelli, it was close. First pole, top five, we can’t be but satisfied today.”

12th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #49
“I had fun on the bike despite the result and I think it may have been the best MotoGP race of my career so far. I felt on par with the rest by battling and counter attacking. With a bit more luck this morning we may have battled with the best rider. We have to build on this performance and try to put together something important.”
