Miguel Oliveira finishes 4th in #BritishGP, Raul Fernandez 10th
The CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team experienced a fantastic Sunday at the British Grand Prix with the best result of Miguel Oliveira in P4 and Raul Fernandez in P10. Despite some changing weather conditions they both delivered a stunning performance, even stayed on two wheels when rain set in and had some strong fights.
Miguel Oliveira, who was starting from P16 on the grid, quickly gained ground and was already in P14 in the first sector and made up another position by the end of lap one. He launched forward making up one position in each lap until he was sixth in lap seven. From there, it took him a few laps to arrive inside the top 5. With eight laps to go, slight rain set in and made conditions very tricky. Nevertheless, the Portuguese continued his great pace and made up four seconds to close in to the top group. There, he was fighting for P3 with two laps to go and eventually crossed the line in fourth position, being the best independent rider of the premier class.
Likewise, Raul Fernandez delivered a great ninth Grand Prix of 2023. He started from P20 after a difficult Qualifying yesterday, but made up a lot of ground in the first few laps. He was already inside the points scoring position on lap two and in P13 on the sixth lap. When the rain set in, he managed to keep his head down and was rewarded with further progress. With five laps to go he was in 11th and took over P10 with two open laps, which he managed to keep over the line. Therewith, he secured his best result of this season so far.
In less than two weeks’ time, the MotoGP World Championship moves over to Austria for round 10 of 2023 and the home Grand Prix for CryptoDATA.
MIGUEL OLIVEIRA
I’m happy! Of course, when you finish that close to the podium and having been in third for a couple of times in the last part of the race, it’s a shame. But I’m still happy to start the second half of the season in a good way, it definitely motivates us to keep going. Although, our approach is to take it race by race and try to do the best that we can. I’m also very happy that Aleix (Espargaro) won the race, having three Aprilia in the top five at this track definitely gives us a good feeling.
RAUL FERNANDEZ
The race was good, I learnt a lot. I was with Marc (Marquez), Fabio (Quartararo) and Enea (Bastianini) almost throughout all the race and I think I did a really good job. But the last part of the race, with the rain it was a bit too difficult to manage and I didn’t want to make a mistake and take a lot of risks, so I saved the position I was in. This is my best race of the year and I’m taking away a lot of experience for the future and know that we can do more.
