Understanding the points in Indycar
Ahead of the first round of the 2024 Indycar Championship this weekend let’s have a look at how drivers score points.
Unlike most motorsport series, every car that finishes scores points using the following scale: 50, 40, 35, 32, 30, 28, 26, 24, 22, 20 for the top ten. The points awarded then reduce by one from 19 for P11 to 6 for P24. Positions 25 to 33rd earn 5 points!
In addition bagging Pole Position earns you 1 point, whilst leading a lap also earns you a point. Lead the most laps in a race and that adds an additional two points to your weekend tally.
Right, so now we know how the points work it’s time to place your bets – round one takes place in St. Petersburg this weekend.
