#EmiliaRomagnaWorldSBK Top Three Reflections – Toprak Razgatlıoğlu: “I love this track, I love everyone and the fans.”

The WorldSBK race 1 winner was potentially an expected one given the rider’s previous record at this circuit. Once again in Misano, the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team rider Toprak Razgatlıoğlu walked away from Saturday victorious. The Turk started Race 1 from the front after qualifying second. Nicolò Bulega fought as much as his Aruba. It Racing Ducati let him in the race when heat has played a major role in the weekend so far. Bulega qualified on pole in the Tissot Superpole session however was found to be riding slowly on the racing line and given a 3 place grid drop for Race 1 – which demoted him to starting 4th.

The Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team rider Axel Bassani started from third but due to unknown circumstances unfortunately crashed out of what would’ve been Bimota’s first podium in their new era. The Barni Spark Racing Team rider Danilo Petrucci battled with the other Bimota Alex Lowes after starting 8th to come through and finish third and take up the last podium spot. Lowes finished valiantly in fourth. Álvaro Bautista struggled today in both the qualifying and the race, he started 11th and finished the race in 7th – that extends his longest winless streak with Ducati to 22 without a win.

Razgatlıoğlu spoke of his bike issues despite him and Bulega being 16 seconds ahead of the rest of the field: “I don’t understand here there is some problem I think, is not really strong and especially in the middle of the race. I lose the front tyre at corner 3 I almost crashed there but after he’s catching me easy and after I just slowed down and starting to take step by step, taking my rhythm again and the last lap, I’m pushing so hard. The biggest problem I feel chattering and vibrations but I’m just focused on the race. For me is very important race, especially in Italy. I love this track, I love everyone and the fans – they make a very good atmosphere but too hot for everyone.”

Razgatlıoğlu spoke about the heat and the effect on the grip on track with his bike: “Also the grip is not like this morning but also the frustration is different because I feel hot and you’re pushing so hard and that’s not easy especially for me because in the last sector I feel a lot of chattering and also the first corner. We are just pushing always the best. Tomorrow we need to improve the bike, because especially the engine brake – I’m not happy. I’m not feeling like a test, if we improve engine brake I think we will ride more calm.”

Bulega struggled with his bike – the heat again being the culprit – despite being 15 seconds ahead of third: “Honestly, I didn’t have a great feeling with the bike. With the hot track temperature I was only at 90%. If you want to try and beat Toprak you need to be at 100%. We’ll try to improve the feeling for tomorrow. I didn’t agree with the penalty. After Turn 10, I looked behind and saw Petrucci coming, so I started to push again to avoid disturbing him. I tried to explain this, and even Danilo told me he wasn’t angry with me, so it’s okay. I’ll just focus on doing my best anyway.”

Petrucci fought against Lowes to get his third place: “This was really, really tough. I started from the third row and at one point I took a big hit to my arm, I don’t even know who it was, but I managed to get up to third position and after that I tried to push. Honestly, I wasn’t even able to push that hard because I was focused on managing rear traction. It was a tough race because you had to keep front grip for the race. Alex did a great job and he tried to overtake me. I thought I might still have a bit of margin. It was tough and I was just waiting for that last lap like it was my birthday!”
