#HungarianWorldSBK Saturday Reflections

History was made at Balaton Park Circuit as Nicolò Bulega extended his remarkable unbeaten start to the 2026 WorldSBK season with another commanding performance for Aruba.it Racing -Ducati, marking 14 consecutive victories since Race Two in Estoril last season. Starting from pole position, Bulgea immediately took control of Race One and never looked back. By the end of the opening lap, the Italian had already opened a gap of more than a second to the chasing pack, underlining his pace advantage that has defined his season so far.
From there, the race quickly became about management rather than survival, with Bulega steadily increasing his advantage while remaining comfortably in control at the front. From Lap 8 onwards, Bulega focused on managing the race, balancing pace and tyre preservation, as he completed all 21 laps at the head of the field, and set the fastest lap of the race. The victory marked his tenth win of the season and further strengthened his grip on the championship.
Behind him, his teammate Iker Lecuona produced one of the standout rides of the afternoon. Starting eighth on the grid, the Spaniard carved his way through the field with decisive overtakes and strong early pace. After gaining two positions on the opening lap, he continued moving through the field on the opening stages before passing RoKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team’s Miguel Oliveira, Barni Spark Racing Team’s Yari Montella and MotoCorsa Racing’s Alberto Surra on consecutive laps to second by Lap 7.
By the time Lecuona had moved into second position on Lap 7, the gap to his teammate had already stretched beyond four seconds. Once into clear air, Lecuona settled into a strong rhythm to complete another Aruba.it Racing – Ducati one-two finish, continuing the team’s dominance at the front of the championship.
The battle for the final podium position centred on Miguel Oliveira, who delivered another understated ride for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team. After spending the opening third of the race fighting through a pack of independent Ducati Riders, the Portuguese rider established himself in third position and controlled the gap behind. By the chequered flag, he held an advantage of over a second to the chasing group.
The fight behind Oliveira featured the Barni Spark Racing Team duo of Álvaro Bautista and Yari Montella, with the pair battling throughout the race inside the top five. Alex Lowes also continued his strong run of consistency for bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team, securing his seventh top-six finish of the campaign after resisting sustained pressure from Bautista during the closing laps.
Further back, Andrea Locatelli led Alberto Surra home in the battle for seventh, while Sam Lowes endured a more difficult afternoon. A jump start penalty dropped the ELF Marc VDS Racing Team rider down the order on his way to ninth place, costing valuable championship points.
In the standings, Bulega’s relentless form extends his championship advantage to 74 points over Lecuona. Sam Lowes remains third overall but now holds only a four-point margin over Oliveira, whose consistency continues to strengthen his position in the title fight. Ducati’s dominance also remains overwhelming in the Manufacturers’ standings. With ten wins from ten races to start the season, the Italian marque now holds a commanding 106-point lead over bimota.

Bulega spoke about his performance: “It wasn’t a bad day, but I’m not riding very naturally at this circuit. In some areas, I have to think a lot about what I’m doing. That’s a bit difficult, but in the end, we’ve won another race, which is incredible. We worked hard with the team after yesterday. I didn’t have the best feeling yesterday, and today it was much better. To achieve this record of consecutive wins is something special. I’m proud, and I hope we can continue like this. It feels like a dream to be riding for Ducati, with such a competitive bike, and to achieve these results with this team and this brand.”

Lecuona spoke about his comeback: “Today was tricky. This morning, we lost our direction because we tried different things on the bike, and even after the changes from FP3 and Superpole, I didn’t feel comfortable. I felt better yesterday, so I’m a bit frustrated with P5 in Superpole. During the race, I lost some time in the opening laps, but I had the pace to fight with Nicolo today, which is positive. My overtakes were good, and the rhythm was strong from start to finish. We are now focused on tomorrow. Starting from P5, the target is to get onto the front row in the Superpole Race and then fight again for the top positions.”

Oliveira talked about his stronger Saturday: “We made a good step for the Superpole session, but we didn’t put a full lap together because of the yellow flags. Starting from the second row is still a good position. I had a strong start to the race, but I lost time in the early laps. In the end, it was a tough race, but I managed to secure third and build a gap to the riders behind. I focused on my own pace and controlling the situation. We also collected some important data for tomorrow. If I can fight for the podium again in both races, I’ll leave Balaton very satisfied.”
