Things we learned in Austin – The FULL GAS Blog
Anyone can go from hero to zero
Jonas Folger and Alexis Masbou, both winners in the Qatar GP, went from hero to zero after 2 weeks. Coincidentally, both riders found themselves finishing the race in 16th place in their respective class. Folger never had the rythm to go fast the whole weekend. Masbou meanwhile appeared to be headed to another trip to the podium but crashed in the final corner. Masbou saw his hopes of claiming even a single point crushed as he could only watch Team Italia’s Matteo Ferrari pass him for 15th place while pushing his bike to the finish line.
We’ve heard it all before, winning races, though very important, doesn’t guarantee a rider a World Championship title. It’s winning and consistency in claiming top results and points when not getting the victory in each race. With 16 more rounds to go, there’s plenty more of races for all riders, not only Folger and Masbou, to get consistent results and become championship contenders.
