[tps_title] Winner: Johann Zarco [/tps_title]

Johann Zarco knows how to celebrate his first Moto2 career victory – doing a backflip in front of the crowd. Correct me if I’m wrong, that’s also the first time a rider did that after a win. Without the bad luck in Qatar that denied him the victory, Zarco would have been a 2-time Moto2 GP winner already.

Starting from pole, Zarco controlled the whole race and was never under the threat of the chasing pack. Alex Rins and Sam Lowes completed the top three. Tito Rabat took the holeshot but was out of contention as early as turn 3. During the cool down lap, Tito Rabat pulled alongside Zarco making gestures, clearly frustrated of the Frenchman “when he came underneath me at turn three and I had to run off track.” Zarco is no stranger to being on the receiving end of riders’ complaints. He’s had clashes with Nico Terol before during 125cc days, with Julian Simon last year in Austin, and just recently with Xavier Simeon at the same venue.

After 3 rounds of racing, Zarco appears to be a real title favorite, thanks to his consistent results. For Zarco, it will be a dream come true to win the title, do it with the newly set up Ajo Motorsport Moto2 outfit, and become the first French world champion since Mike Di Meglio in 2008.
