Winners and Losers in Argentina – The FULL GAS Blog
Considered as one of the best teams in the lightweight class, the Red Bull KTM Ajo squad is having difficulties winning again. All three of the team’s riders are yet to make the podium. This is not something we’d expect from a team who enjoyed winning seasons with Jack Miller, Luis Salom, Sandro Cortese, Mike Di Meglio, and current MotoGP king Marc Marquez.
Miguel Oliveira’s goal in Argentina is to get a lot of points after failing to score in the first two races. He had a solid start, stealing pole position from Danny Kent. Unfortunately, he finished just fourth in the race, out of the podium once again. Brad Binder and Karel Hanika, Oliveira’s teammates, finished fifth and seventh respectively. Team boss Aki Ajo was happy with the team’s performance. “I am also very satisfied with the performance of our three riders. Really good!”, he said. But for sure, Ajo wants more than that especially with Kent collecting lots of championship points.
Aki Ajo said the reason for their poor start is the lack of pre-season preparation to develop and understand the bike. “As I have repeated on other occasions, in the winter conditions did not make things easy for us and we needed more time with the bikes. I’m happy that KTM have helped us to understand the bikes better. I think that very soon we will be able to fight for the victory.”
However, this may just be an excuse. After all, all riders lacked pre-season testing due to bad weather.
